How to change a letterbox lock
If the mailbox is open and you have the right lock, it’s a 20-minute job. Here’s how.
Updated
You need
- A replacement lock with the right body length and cam (see will it fit?)
- An adjustable spanner or pliers for the nut
- A screwdriver for the cam screw
Steps
- Open the mailbox and look at the back of the lock.
- Remove the cam: undo the screw or nut holding the flat bar.
- Remove the nut behind the door and slide the old lock out the front.
- Fit the new lock from the front and tighten the nut behind.
- Set the cam direction so it swings behind the frame when locked. This is where most DIY attempts go wrong.
- Test several times with the door shut before you rely on it.
Locked out, unsure of the cam direction, or want a warranty? We supply and fit from S$50, with no fit, no fee.
FAQ
Can I change a letterbox lock myself?
Often, yes: if the mailbox is open, you buy a lock with the right body length and cam, and you set the cam to the turning direction your mailbox needs. That last step is where most DIY attempts go wrong. If you prefer it done once and guaranteed, we supply and fit from S$50 with a 1-year warranty and no fit, no fee.
